Healthy Youth Education In-School Programs

The Council on Adolescents provides Healthy Youth Education Programs to youth across Catawba County. Our in-school programs follow North Carolina's Healthy Youth Act requirements and Healthful Living Guidelines. This includes reproductive health and safety education to 7th - 9th grades and puberty education to 5th and 6th grades, as well as a booster program for 10th grade students.

  • Educators spend 2-6 hours with each grade discussing risky behaviors, their anatomy and its functions, refusal techniques and exploring values and relationships and community resources.
  • Programs allow every student to be exposed to age appropriate, medically accurate, holistic information regardless of their socio-economic and ethnic background.
  • The programs are also framed to present opportunities for open discussion between parents and their children; including educating parents at PTO/PTA meetings, offering parent/child activities through the in-school course and providing other resources for parents via our website, social media outlets, and on-site resource library.
